Rohit Sharma MI creates a history in IPL 2023 with a giant run-chase against PBKS for the first time ever
For two matches in a row, the Mumbai Indians had to chase a target well above the 200-run mark in the IPL 2023.
On Wednesday, the Mumbai Indians won a match against the Punjab Kings by scoring 215 runs. This win made history because Mumbai Indians became the first team in IPL history to chase down a target of over 200 runs for two consecutive matches.
This was yet another high-scoring contest in the 16th edition of the T20 league, with Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan providing emphatic performances to guide the team to a 6-wicket win in Mohali. In the previous match against the Rajasthan Royals, Tim David heroics had helped the team secure a memorable victory, with Rohit Sharma men successfully chasing down a 213-run target. Given MI batting performances this season, the target of 215 runs set by Punjab seemed difficult.
However, Ishan Kishan laid the foundation with a 41-ball 75, while Cameron Green (23 off 18) and Yadav knocked of 66 runs off 31 balls, which kept the Mumbai Indians in the chase.
After Suryakumar departed, MI fans became anxious, but Tim David and Tilak Varma demonstrated how good the Mohali wicket was for batters. Tim David and Tilak Varma scored 19 runs off 10 balls and 26 runs off 10 balls, respectively, to help the Mumbai Indians finish off the chase in 18.5 overs.
"At the start of the T20 format, 150 was a winning score. One extra batter makes a significant difference as well. The average score this season is around 180. SKY has been performing well for a few overs. Playing behind the wicket is his strength, and he used it well. After the match, MI skipper Rohit praised Kishan and SKY exceptional batting performance.
As it was their fourth consecutive defeat in Mohali, the Punjab Kings were unable to win in their home games. The victory sees the Mumbai Indians in sixth place in the points table, with five wins in nine matches
